MUFE Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer - Mattifying & Smoothing

Hello beauties,

Sooo ladies I'm sure a lot of you have read or heard a loooot of about the Makeup Forever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer!! I first heard about it from Goss Wayne on YouTube and here was the title HIT! FINALLY A PRIMER THAT REALLY WORKS! and I was curious because I have learnt a lot from his channel and blah blah and later on other YouTubers started raving about it as well! I was like aha! I may have gotten to the primer bus stop!

These primers comes in 10 different formulas, you will get one that suits your skin concerns, in my case my main concerns are oiliness, large pores and hyper pigmentation but honestly I don't feel any primer can color correct just my opinion so I got Mattifying and Smoothing one.

MUFE says: Prep skin for your makeup routine with Step 1 Skin Equalizers, and address your skin concerns with this innovative makeup primer. Perfect for balancing skin and achieving an ideal makeup result, it’s lightweight and creamy, leaving a more evenly-toned appearance, and increases foundation's hold. This primer for all skintones leaves makeup looking fresh for hours while it hydrates, firms, and smooths the look of the skin.

It comes in the regular primer size which is 30ml, it is MUFE so you already know it is pricey, it retails for RM170, $36 but with all the raves I thought it will be worth it!

MATTIFYING PRIMER is the answer to unwanted shine, fighting against excess oil to ensure a matte makeup result. Formulated with our specific Sebustop Vegetal Complex, this first step equalizer instantly reduces pore size and controls shine for a flawless makeup all day long. (from MUFE website)

MY THOUGHTS, Hmmmm my people, you do know I have oily/combo skin right? my nose and cheek get pretty oily and the rest remains normal so I was super excited to try this, but I'm sad to tell you this! did not minimize or control my shine at all and I think it makes me shiny quickly because after only 2 hours the oily war starts -- this is a big let down, my other primers helps control shine longer than this. The color white and looks like silicone but it is not, it sets and dries as soon as you apply and this made me feel aha! matte matte matte but Lawd! no, I have tried it with different foundations, on a hot day, on a cold day.. I believe the primer itself is what makes me more greasy. I have even waited for about 10 minutes before applying foundation but NO!

SMOOTHING PRIMER instantly fills in and blurs imperfections for silky soft skin. This satiny, non-oily formula evens out skin texture by minimizing pores, wrinkles and fine lines. Skin looks resurfaced and perfectly smooth for a flawless makeup all day long. (from MUFE website)

MY THOUGHTS, alright like I mentioned earlier I do have large pores so that is why I got this one along, this one is ok, it blurs the skin, fine lines and minimizes pores, the texture is similar to Benefit's porefessional but it has a kinda lavender smell that I really hate, the smoothing primer is good but if you have any other primer for pores, fine lines you do not need this.. there is no big deal. I will keep using this one since it's ok. I prefer the benefit's one to this BTW! If you are wondering this doesn't do much in minimizing oil either but still better than the #1, my makeup lasts longer with this.

OVERALL THOUGHTS, these primers are nice bases, helps foundation glides on smoothly, honestly when you apply either one there is this nice feel on the skin like a layer, makes the skin feel soft and smooth but the mattiyfing primer didn't work for me at all, it makes me even more oily than usual, the smoothing primer on the other hand is good but nothing special, honestly I'm a bit disappointed especially after having high hopes from all of the amazing reviews and they are quite pricey. I wish I had bought just the smoothing one really!

I probably have weird skin, because I don't get it, why it worked for a lot but not me you know -- SO you know where I stand on these! you can get them if you like, who knows it might work for you but I personally do not recommend. If you have tried this primer and it worked for you, please let me know if  I'm doing something wrong!
Have you tried these primers? What is/are your favorite primers?! Which do you recommend for oily skin! Please do leave your comments below! Have a fabulous day and stay beautiful!

  2. I really enjoyed this review and I have been waiting for someone with a similar skin tone and skin type as me to review this. Thanks a lot because now I have to try something else. I was so close to giving this a try but I guess I will just purchase the Becca Ever Matte Primer which has been hyped up and I believe works well..Thanks for sharing an honest review....xx

  4. Aw, I'm sorry to hear that you aren't completely happy with them! That's too bad the mattifying one didn't work as it was suppose to with your skin! I totally would love a spray or primer for mattifying but definitely will want to test and feel these in store before I buy any! I've heard a lot of good about these though but for the price tag I'd expect it to work at least decently!

  5. Thank god for your honest review.. I am eyeing to buy the mattifying one but now.. I'll pass.. Haha.. Probably best to try other primer.. Rm170 is so big of a deal since I am not makeup artist.. Too pricey for primer..

  6. For everyone saying they want to try the Becca ever matte primer, bad news BC it is literally the same as the mufe. The makeup forever is a little less drying than Becca but if you have one you really don't need the other. They're the exact same. Lol
